Katy Carey

Katy Carey is a fully qualified and registered teacher of the ISTD, holding a DDE in Modern Theatre Dance (with Distinction). Katy also holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in Psychological Science, both from University College Dublin. She is currently working on completing her DDE’s in Tap and Classical Ballet. She is Advanced Ballet, Modern Theatre and Advanced 2 level in Tap Dance. She first began dancing when she joined Tots Ballet with Annette Hynes at age three. Katy has remained with the school as both a student and teacher ever since! She has performed in many of our school shows in the Mermaid Theatre, Bray, and has completed several Summer Intensives in Bray School of Dance, Dance Ireland, and Bird College, London. Katy also studied as a full-time student at Dance College Whitstable, Kent in 2017, where she achieved her Diploma in Dance Instruction (DDI) in Modern Theatre Dance (& later her DDE) and her Advanced 1 Tap exam, both with distinction. Katy continues her professional development with DCW and Kathryn Wiggans, through online learning and several trips to the UK. Academically, Katy completed her Masters research dissertation by conducting a research project which explored the relationship between a dancer’s motor imagery abilities, attentional effort and expertise while learning choreography, which was published in the Frontiers in Psychology journal. Katy currently teaches in Bray School of Dance and works as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist. Her patience and attention to detail as well as her beautiful style of dance gives our students a huge advantage. Katy’s style and talent as a dancer has been commented on by many top examiners and choreographers of the ISTD and we are so grateful to have her with us to pass this on to our students.
